In other news, Brexit has caused draughts and poor weather for growing food.

So we can believe the BBC these days, Side?
Sorry, I struggle to keep up with WHO trends.

I suspect our resident fuck-wit is fishing.

However, in other news, small children all over the UK are celebrating the prospect of no tomatoes, lettuce or cucumber for two weeks.

Fuck all to do with BREXIT, you plonker.

Energy prices through the roof, so the growers put prices up, greedy supermarkets won't pay it.

Well, some won't.

Re: No fruit and veg
No traditional SUMMER fruit and veg.

There I've corrected it for you.

Lazy cunts will now have to turn the page on their "Cooking for arrogant, ignorant fuckers" recipe book and learn how to prepare a meal with traditional seasonal British fruit & veg instead.

You don't have to trust the BBC. You could check it elsewhere, like here, a site I suspect of being less than Brexit-friendly:

https://www.euronews.com/green/2023/02/23/fact-check-is-brexit-to-blame-for-britains-fruit-and-vegetable-shortages

Anywhere except the silly old Guardian really.

Re: No fruit and veg
Pre-Brexit there was never a shortage of any type of food, ever. FACT!

That wasn't my point although I'll concede the point I was making - I won't shoot the messenger if he brings me good news - was, perhaps, a cheap one.

That said, your link doesn't give Brexit a completely clean bill of health either.

"Navigating extra Brexit-imposed cost and bureaucracy of getting the fresh fruit and vegetables across the Channel is clearly proving too costly for some producers, which is why tomatoes are reaching supermarkets in France, Belgium or the Netherlands but not Britain."

Re: No fruit and veg
are our European cousins suffering similar shortages?

brother-in-law was in Sicily but didn't mention anything.

Yes Ireland the same.

Re: No fruit and veg

Yes, but unlike the rest of the article, that's opinion not backed up with direct quotes.

And the argument they put forward makes no sense. They say Ireland is also suffering shortages but France, Netherlands, etc aren't, so maybe a bit Brexit. But Ireland is still in the EU, so their argument simply reinforces what everyone else is telling them - it's shipping costs, weather and a miscalculation by British growers that are the issue not regulations that don't even come into force until next year.

Short of building about 20 extra channel tunnels, placing a billion zillion electric heaters in Morocco and Spain and building a time machine, there's not much we can do.

Re: No fruit and veg
Actually, there is something we can do. We can sort out our energy and food self-sufficiency policy that has been disgracefully ignored by governments of all colours since the start of the twentieth century.

Re: No fruit and veg
Waitrose are selling mandarins (in stock) for £3.60 for 1000gm.

In French supermarkets they are €3.99 for 900gm.

So at today’s exchange rate they are also 8% more expensive in France than the UK.

ANOTHER WIN FOR BREXIT.
